Her finger traced the outline of the heart carved into the bark of the tree trunk.  The initials seemed familiar, yet altogether foreign at the same time.  A solitary red leaf drifted downward and The Girl watched with a smile as it landed intentionally in pile of orange and yellow-hued leaves awaiting its friends' arrival.  The tree looked like a skeleton, its limbs nearly bare.  The Girl knew that while winter was approaching, it wouldn't be long before the new greenery sprouted, shading the carved heart once again from nosy passers-by.

Artists Jeff Ryan and Barbara Edelman are fine art printmakers who work from the studio next to their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
